Pakistani Policewoman arrests Robber after Befriending Him F

A Pakistani policewoman took the unconventional method of befriending a robber on the phone before arresting him and his accomplice.

The policewoman is the Station House Officer (SHO) at Pirabad Police Station in Karachi.

It was reported that the officer posed as a teenager whilst talking to the suspect on the phone.

The undercover operation came to light after the thieves raided a house and made off with gold jewellery.

On November 30, 2020, a man named Tameez Khan turned up at the police station and registered a complaint against the robbery.

SHO Sharafat Khan managed to obtain the phone number of one of the thieves. She called the suspect and posed as a teenager in a bid to befriend him.

After gaining his trust, she offered to meet him. He accepted and they decided to meet at a restaurant.

SHO Khan said: “I rang him up and pretended to be a teenage girl who needed his help. I told him to meet me at a restaurant near Shahrae Faisal.”

The Pakistani policewoman disguised herself by wearing a burqa and facemask before turning up to the meeting point.

She added: “I told him to come quickly and that people were staring me and I was feeling awkward.”

When the thief arrived, SHO Khan continued pretending to be a teenager.

She wore a facemask to prevent him from recognising her and they continued to speak.

She then signalled her police team to arrest him.

Police said they have recovered jewellery, cash and a mobile phone from the suspect. His accomplice was arrested after the detained suspect identified him.

While this was a unique undercover operation, this was not SHO Khan’s first. In the past, she has posed as a doctor or social activist in order to arrest criminals.

In April 2020, she was attacked by a group of men after she and her team stopped them from entering a mosque in Frontier Colony before Friday prayers.

In a video, which went viral on social media, the injured SHO was seen outside the mosque, warning the men that they are violating the government’s order to suspend mass prayers amid the Coronavirus outbreak.

In the video, she was heard saying: “I didn’t lock the mosque but I will do so now.”

A lockdown was imposed in Pakistan at the time to contain the spread of Coronavirus.

Despite bans on congregational prayers, many people still went and violated the government’s orders.
